Jessica's ministry this Summer
Dear Friends and Family,
I want to thank you all so much for your prayers for me this summer! For my third year, I worked at Forcey Day Camp for 8 weeks. Throughout the summer God used me and put me in situations that I was not expecting to deal with, but through the fun times and hard times, God was working.
I was a Senior Counselor for the Pioneers, the 3rd and 4th graders, which is the age group I especially love. This is the age where they are usually old enough to understand the things we taught them, but they aren’t too old and too “cool” to have fun. I noticed this summer how the campers had many deep questions about the Bible. It was encouraging to know that the lessons were actually impacting these kids, and also seeing a difference in them by the end of the summer.
One time during Discovery Zone, where we sing songs and have skits fitting the theme of the week, a Camper named Justin started asking me questions about Heaven and Hell. It was really hard for me to answer the questions because I had 2 campers sitting on my lap and another camper on my back! Other counselors were right there ready to help me out though which was great. After talking to Justin, he still was somewhat confused, but by the end of the summer, God used other counselors and myself to witness to him, and he was saved! God works in such amazing ways! It was wonderful to be able to see little children having a love for Jesus.
Each week, we took the kids on different field trips. We went to Bounce U, Roller Skating, the Zoo, and the Water Park. We even had an entire week dedicated to water games! When we went to the Zoo, my group was huge, so we had trouble keeping track of all the kids. My direction skills didn’t help much and we ended up not being able to find any animals the first half of the trip! We ended up teaming up with a couple other groups that knew where they were going thankfully and we ended up having a fun trip. We also had Olympic week, during which I taught my group, The Australian Purple Parrots, about sharing, since they each had to take turns holding our team flag.
This summer’s theme was “The Fruit of the Spirit”. Personally, I was amazed by how our staff was so united and how each person put in effort to be examples to the kids of what each of the “fruits” look like. I am so thankful God once again opened the door for me to minister to the kids at Forcey Day Camp. I cannot wait for next summer to see what God has in store! I thank everyone for their prayers and support, but ultimately God received ALL the glory and thanks! He is the reason I live and want to serve in the Forcey Day Camp summer ministry.
In Christ,
Jessica Itzel
“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” ~Galatians 5:19-23
